Neighbor Clifton Durant on ADT Security

To follow up on an earlier post, Bloomingdale neighbor Clifton Durant, who is an ADT safety consultant, submitted the following to the listserv:

In light of the recent posting about various random people in our area possibly posing as ADT sales reps, I thought it would be a good time to reiterate the fact that I am available to answer any home security questions that anyone in our community may have.

Our office, located in Springfield, VA, is the only corporate ADT office that services the DC & NOVA areas. However, there may be many authorized dealers (contractors) who have acquired permission to use the ADT name in their business. A quick way to tell the difference would be the website address. The only official ADT website is ADT.com. Only official ADT personnel have e-mail addresses that end in @adt.com.

Having spoken with a few of our neighbors, I see that there is a growing concern about people gaining access to our homes with false credentials. I would advise that you never allow any stranger into your home to do a security review or anything else without first being given identification with contact information that can be verified instantly either with a phone call or a quick Internet search. Any professional at your door without an appointment will graciously wait for you to verify their credentials. To be on the safe side, it may be best to not allow anyone in your home whom you didn't schedule yourself. After you've had an opportunity to verify their info, you can schedule an appointment with them at a date and time convenient for you and your family.
