Prince of Petworth brings Bloomingdale tidings

The Prince of Petworth blog puts forward some news about the building at First Street NW and Seaton Place NW.

I spoke to some folks from Bloomingdale this week who had some interesting scuttlebutt. First is the the decrepit storefront at the corner of 1st and Seaton has been purchased. The word on the street is that it is going to become a Chinese food spot. The question is whether it will be sit down or takeout. The neighbors I spoke with said they were really hoping it would be a sit down spot. Again this is just hearsay but the neighbors I spoke to had heard that someone put a bid on this same property to open a pizza spot but they were out bid. And they of course were not referring to Baraki to be located at the corner of 1st and T.

Bloomingdale resident @Nolan alerted us earlier in the year when workers appeared to haul away trash from the building, presumably so that it could be put on the market, as IMGoph noted. It's a shame that the neighbors who wanted to buy the building were outbid, and I've heard that the new owners want to open either a dry cleaner's or yet another Chinese takeout restaurant, both of which Bloomingdale already has, and very near to the location at that.

What have you heard?

I've heard that Bloomingdale will be just like Logan Circle, only better, by the middle of next year.

Now if only all the pesky poor people in the neighborhood would move away....

haha @ Anonymous.

I really hate gentrification. For the record, we could definitely use another chinese food spot.

I don't know why you'd be opposed to that, as they certainly keep the money moving within the community.
