how you can help Haiti

Bloomingdale residents have a unique opportunity to help the international aid efforts in Haiti.

Do donate money to reputable charitable organizations. See Charity Navigator for a list of established agencies that are accepting financial contributions.

Do volunteer locally. The DC chapter of the Red Cross and Serve DC will have opportunities for phonebanking and other tasks.

Do participate in CrisisCamp DC this Saturday, January 16.

Do attend fundraisers to benefit Haiti. See the Washington City Paper's list of local events.

Do donate blood and/or platelets. Bloomingdale residents can go to the Washington Hospital Center or the Walter Reed Army Medical Center.

Do think about participating in future aid efforts—be they in Haiti or elsewhere in the world—by getting training in disaster relief. Haiti will be recovering from this disaster for decades to come, and getting the relevant skills and experience now could help you play an important role in the country's recovery.
